First, what freedom of education is NOT: It is not the “right” to a compulsory, tax-funded education (the gross mischaracterization of mandatory government schooling as a “freedom” notwithstanding). Neither is it being allowed to attend a privately-funded school in lieu of a government school.
It is also not the “right” to transfer one’s child to another government institution instead of settling for the one to which she has been assigned. It is not vouchers, or tax credits, or charter schools. And it is absolutely NOT jumping through hoops in order to be “permitted” to directly oversee the education of one’s own children (aka “homeschooling”).
Rather, freedom of education is education free from government establishment, oversight, assessment, standards, restriction, registration, and funding. That is the kind of education and student organizations on which this country was founded. That is the kind of education that produced the men and women who risked their lives to establish this republic.
“When you reach for the money is when they slip on the handcuffs.” Government funding guarantees government control. And where there is government control, there is not freedom of education.
When it is time to budget, government officials have much to decide. Of course, money is required for the police department, roads, social welfare, and more purposes. There are many ways to divide the tax revenue. Many individuals will tend to concur that schooling and education highly important. The children that are in class these days are ultimately going to be our future of tomorrow. Funding for school begins with offering different school programs and hiring good teachers.
If your kids go to school, it is best to have their school receive the funds that it needs. Schools need used textbooks for students to learn the material. Extracurricular activities that include sports, language programs, and a lot of other organizations require money to exist. Today, online education has fortunately increased the options available to earn the degree that students want.
Clubs can, of course, raise the funds themselves to aid in purchasing these goods, but it’s not always the most efficient way or the best way for that matter. Raising money requires a lot of time and effort. This takes away from the time that organizers have to set up the proper curriculum and planning. Teachers have more than enough on their plate and should have to worry about where there is enough money for a program to continue.
Some people will debate that schools should be our very top priority. The funds that are invested in education and its related programs will be repaid back to our economy in the future. There are a few that would believe that spending funds on education is a bad thing. However, there are some things to consider when spending a lot of money in the education system.
First and foremost, schools do not always spend their resource in the most efficient manner, which wastes valuable tax dollars and regarding that, it doesn’t matter if the economy is doing well or not. The schools will not cut costs and spend money efficiently if there is too much to go around and for disabled students, all needed accommodations must be provided as well, of course.
Another point is that there are some folks that believe that schools should receive a lot of money, there comes a point when providing too many dollars in a particular area means that another program will be underfunded. Since school is not the only area where tax revenues will contribute to this is a valid statement. It is up to our state government officials to decide what is best for our citizens.
The purpose of this post is to explain our government’s effort to improve the education system in the United States of America. Even though our government has a lot on its plate, the positive effects of improving education through reform and funding is overwhelmingly favorable. For a long time, schools in rich areas had a big advantage over other schools in poorer neighborhoods when comparing educational levels. This has created a sense of urgency in the government to narrow the gap between education for the rich and the poor. Ultimately, the goal is to improve education for everyone and in the end, our economy will prosper for that.
